I’ve decided to try Equilibrio since the Blondies and Riley still rely heavily on kibble.
But first things first, if you search the web for the unbiased review on Equilibrio by cats.com, please take note that they are reviewing the Equilibrio produced in Europe, whereas the Malaysian importer is importing the Equilibrio from Brazil which uses a totally different formula.
The Equilibrio in Malaysia has these ingredients in its Adult Hairball. This is the Brazilian website: https://www.equilibrio-petfood.com/
It pays to find out before we jump to conclusions!

Malaysian stores sell only the Brazilian production, not the European one. There are only three flavours in Malaysia. I know Equilibrio is known for its palatibility, so I had to check it out. Also, my cat-rescuer friend who has more than 100 cats uses only Equilibrio soaked in her boiled chicken soup with chicken breast meat. That’s all she feeds her cats and some live beyond 20 years, her oldest being 27.

Juno was the first to rush to her bowl. Juno is very naughty now, she doesn’t want kitten kibble. By right, she should be on kitten kibble until one year old. She wants Monge Adult, like Riley. She doesn’t want Monge Kitten. Sigh.
I would say Juno wasn’t crazy about it, perhaps a 3 on a scale of 1-5.

I thought Riley would love it, but I was wrong. Riley only ate a bit, gave it a 2 and walked off. “I’d rather starve,” she said.

Tabs loved it and I’d say she gave it a 5, but Tabs should not be on Equilibrio. She should be on her renal food, but she doesn’t like RC Renal anymore now, so I have put her on cooked food (lower protein, but quality protein) and just some kibble snack for satiety. But she loved Equilibrio.

The Blondies definitely gave it a double thumbs-up 5! They sapu habis within minutes, like a vacuum cleaner and asked for more. I knew they would like it since it has grains. They are getting really fed-up of their Cindy’s Grainfree.

They even ignored their raw food.

Creamy, surprisingly, liked it too. I’d say a 4. But this is good news because Creamy rejects ALL other kibble. I just haven’t tried Monge on him, but he totally rejects Cindy’s Grainfree. He rejects canned food too. Only wants raw.

Gerald gave it a 0. He walked off. Apa ni? You think you can afford to be so pahpai?
Yes, he does.

I made Ginger and the Monsters eat their raw food first. They are obedient. Of course they already smelled the new kibble. But they dutifully ate their raw food, just didn’t finish all of it.

I added the new kibble to their raw food to make them finish it all up. For them, I can mix. Not so for the rest.
Everyone rushed for the Equilibrio except Smurfy who needed some coaxing and waiting.

Smurfy finally ate. I’d says Ginger and the Monsters gave it a 4.5. Not a perfect 5. They normally eat Cindy’s Grainfree and Monge.

Riley was finally too hungry to say no, so she begged me (yes, kept rubbing on my leg) for kibble. I poured out from Equilibrio and she ate, but did not finish. A 2, perhaps. Then, she rubbed on my leg again. I know, I know, you want Monge. So I gave her Monge which she happily and gratefully ate up.
Riley used to only eat Tabs’ RC Renal which isn’t even suitable for her at all since she isn’t a CKD cat. I’m glad I managed to wean her off it with Monge.
Now, Riley loves Monge Adult Chicken.
So, based on today’s verdict (which could change over the next few days), our cats rated Equilibrio Adult Hairball a 4.07.
It will change in the next few days. For example, Gerald wasn’t hungry just now, he had just eaten his full dinner. I think we can get a 4.5 after a few days.
Monge still gets a near-perfect score of 4.9 from our cats! Maybe even a perfect 5 since I haven’t given it to Creamy before. Gerald loves Monge.
Updates: Gerald eats Equilibrio this morning (11th Dec 2024) and rated it a 4. So our cats rate give it an overall 4.3. Not bad at all. But Monge still wins paws down!
