Of fireworks, etc.

In case you are wondering why I’m still awake at this hour, well….there are a few reasons.

I was incapacitated for four hours this afternoon until evening due to suspected food poisoning. Never had bouts of vomiting this badly before (six times where I could not even retain plain water) and I thought I was going to be hospitalised again on drip! Luckily it finally stopped and I’m okay now. I think the worst is over.

What a letdown, to be sick on 31st December, right? But not really. Every day is just a number on the human-created calendar for me. What if you followed another culture’s calendar, right? Haha… Every day, I am thankful I’m still alive and able to do some good. And every day that I’m ill, I am reminded of the imperfection of this life.

Some may say, “Oh well, the Universe wants you to rest for four hours”. Now, that’s a very romantic and sentimental thought there, but I think it’s more of just dumb luck that I ate some bad food and ended up with food poisoning! Our planet is, after all, to quote the renowned astronomer, Carl Sagan, just a “pale blue dot” in the cosmos, so I doubt the Universe has any time for one of the billions of inhabitants on Earth (that’s counting the animals too).

But I join in the sentimentality of special dates for the fun of it, and I respect those who celebrate, but please do so in moderation and can we dispense with all the noise, especially from fireworks and firecrackers? Can we think of the environment, of all the animals who will be scared and little humans who might be scared too? After all, it’s still our responsibility to take care of this pale blue dot, as insignificant as it is.

Right now, some of the fireworks have started, from thankfully, from afar. Tabs is very scared. Our Monsters are scared too. For those with dogs, I hope you have kept your dogs indoors and given them a safe place so that they won’t escape. Cats, too. Our Monsters have two big covered cages as their safehouses.

Fur/Ball’s Ocean Eyes arrived today. The Monsters absolutely love it and I’m giving them as a treat for tonight. Poor Monsters, they are just cringing each time they hear fireworks.

Tabs love it and even Riley does.

So far, the Blondies and Juno don’t seem to be scared of the booming sounds.

It’s going to be a long night, folks.
