Tabs eats again and Ginger at his top of the world

Tabs deteriorated very, very quickly and last night, we rushed to get her Gabapentin to help ease any discomfort she might have. I also gave her Mirtazapine last night, but it did not work at all. She refused all food and water today. She didn’t even want me to moisten her lips with a cotton pad, so I had to respect that.

She was so weak I had to carry her a few times to the litter box, but she mustered up strength to go outside to get some sun. Her hind legs were very weak and she could barely walk. The decline was so sharp and unexpected. The Gabapentin helped her relax and she practically slept all day.

But just now, out of the blue, during one of the litter box trips where I carried her, she showed interest in food by approaching Riley’s bowl of kibble. So I quickly offered her some baby food and to my utter surprise, Tabs started eating. This was unbelievable.

All in, she almost finished a whole can of the baby food (Cindy’s pate food), perhaps about 60g of it. I did not think Tabs would eat anymore, but she did.

I am not sure what is going on here, but I shall play it by ear. If Tabs wants to eat or drink, that is really good.

Tabs had been lying on a fleece blanket all day today, and now she wants to lie on this bean bag, which she likes.

Ginger hasn’t eaten in five days now. I also do not know what is happening with him, but he is still very alert and loves his “top of the world” platform in his catio.

He gets up to the platform all by himself. Minnie is always close up.

Sometimes we really do not know what is going on or what to expect, so all we can do is to do our best at every moment. Sometimes, it is about listening to what our pets want to do for themselves. It isn’t about what we want. It’s about what they want. Maybe they know what’s best for them.
