Why I blog and write

In the wee hours of this morning as I got up and starting thinking about what else we can do to help Imm and her 59 animals in Ipoh, how Twinkle and Jingle are doing, whether Isis has fully recovered, and if Patches (a dog) and Rani’s cat would be ok today, after their spaying, what to teach my engineering students this morning and how to challenge them to think critically, and the tons of things lined up for today, I was pleasantly greeted by this comment on one of my very old postings on Simba.  It comes from “Mynn”, a veterinary student.

Mynn writes:
Hi Kah Yein, Ive been reading post after post after post on your blog for the past two hours, with my outstanding work all piled up in front of me. It does say something about your posts, doesnt it? =)

This post on animals leaving us left me in tears, and when I saw that old picture of yours..I realised I had read your book long ago.

Anyway, I just want to drop by to tell you that what you do is very inspiring and uplifting for me. I am a college student aiming to study Veterinary Medicine. And I really hope to succeed and to be able to help all these animals, just like you do. I know it sounds very cliche, but i really want to do this.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for what you are doing with these dogs and cats.

Thank you very much, Mynn. With your love for animals, I am sure you will join the ranks of successful animal-loving vets like James Herriot and I hope you will write about your work too. Maybe you could be one of our panel vets too!

It brings to mind, a long time ago, when an anonymous commentator wrote in one of my postings that he too was a rescuer but he doesn’t “blow his trumpet” and write about what he does.

It is comforting to know that not all people think like him!

I blog and I write to share my experiences with the hope that it may encourage others to help animals. Ever since I started this blog, I have received many emails from many people, including young children. The most encouraging ones are those who say they too want to help animals now. More encouraging would be the ones who say reading my books have changed how they perceive animals.

Education is the key to effecting change.

So, if you have a story to share, send it to me, and I’ll blog it for you and share it with the rest of the world!

Have a great day! There is so much we can do to help others and bring more cheer to this world.

Dearest KY, don't mind that negative commentator, dear. He, like some envious people, is myopic. God knows how inspirational your books and writings have been.

My once ugly new neighbour who always stomps and bangs her kitchen door every time I go behind to feed the neutered strays have stopped after another Buddhist neighbour whose kids I gave your books to, talked some sense into her.

Keep up the good work, and never mind the distractors!

yes keep up the good work and the inspirational blog! This is also a useful method of hightlighting a plight of the strays. Many a times when we share about how we rescue and rehome a stray, some people with nothing better to do will accuse us of glorifying ourself. As hurtful as it is, we just have to ignore negative comment like this and be more aware of how we post our story.. sad.. but true. 🙁

Yes, Kah Yein, let people talk what they want. We cant please everyone on earth. Such people will make "good gossipers". As long as we know we are doing the right thing for animals safety and survival, its fine.

Anyway its fun to share views and talk about animals. We learn new useful thing, it makes us feel like a great big family.
