The long-standing challenge of feeding the Blondies

If you have been following the Blondies’ stories, you might remember that they are extremely choosy eaters. Among the four of them, Samantha is the easiest and Akira, the hardest.

In the last few days, though, I had some sort of a breakthrough with them. I am not sure if it was pure luck or they are becoming less choosy.

This morning was an exception where all four of them ate Cubgrub!

That’s Samantha with Kai and Indra. I have been achieving some measure of success with Kai and Indra for the past few days. Samantha almost always eats Cubgrub every morning, so that’s quite normal.

Now, this is extremely rare – getting Akira to eat Cubgrub. Normally, she won’t even touch it. I’ll be lucky if she is willing to eat a plate of cut-up chicken. She’s a kibble-queen.

Riley has a strange habit of eating up leftover Cubgrub from the Blondies. She won’t eat if I offer her a plate inside the house. When she is inside, it’s only canned food or kibble. Cubgrub is only eaten outdoors. Why so? I really don’t know!

Juno only eats canned food (cooked) or kibble. Ever since her very serious Coccidia infection when she was an infant, she has decided to stay away from raw food. Smart girl. But Juno is an extremely small eater. She reminds me of Cleo. I often wondered how Cleo survived, eating so little, but survive she did, until 16 years old.

The Blondies will still want a plate of kibble as a snack. I guess female cats like kibble because crunching them feels like crunching bone. Females cats are the hunters in the wild.

The Monsters – my favourite to feed because they eat so well and are not choosy!

Minnie, the Asian cat-mum, who will dutifully polish up everyone’s leftovers. She doesn’t mind if I put all the leftovers into one plate for her, never mind if it’s different types of food. Waste not, want not. My grandma would have really liked her!

You are an extremely busy lady, but if you have the time, I would love an update on Kelly. How is she faring?

Hi Melanie, Kelly is doing well at the guardhouse. Since she doesn’t appear every morning, I stopped going down to feed her. Instead, I supply food to the guardhouse and let the guard feed her. Occasionially I do see her when I pass by and she looks very well. Also, the guard is her primary caregiver and I did not want her to depend on me. I will take a photo the next time I see her. Another neighbour sees Kelly more often whenever she passes by and tells me she is doing very well too.
