We had our 2nd dog training session today (or more accurately, “dog-owner training” session) with Mike Tan today.
For those who are interested in joining us, please write to me directly.
Venue: Central Park, Bandar Utama
Day: Saturdays
Time: 8am
Hands-on demo with Socks and Aishu (our two puppies).
With Catarinha – Mike says it is sometimes easier to teach adult dogs (more mature, not so playful).
Bobby and Cata.
But not the “very mature” ones like 13 year-old Bobby!
Bobby refused to take instructions and was not even motivated by food.
Mike told me that on the Stanley Coren Scale, poodles are ranked as the most intelligent dogs simply because they have a mind of their own and want to do their own thing. That also makes them the hardest to train because they won’t listen to you.
Bobby is a good example of this trait – he has been “doing his own thing” for 13 years! Mike says as long as he fairly well-behaved, why don’t I just let him be. Yup, I’m ok with that!
Poodle owners, be forewarned, please – your pet might end up “training” you (which is actually what Bobby has done to us!).
