Famous vegetarians and famous meat-eaters

Famous Vegetarians
“Go veg?  But I’d feel so weak and lose my strength…”
Here are more famous vegetarians…
But to be fair,
Here are the famous meat-eaters!!
Drumroll……..!!!
Take your pick, folks.
And, if you’re still not convinced, from the length of your intestines and the shape of your teeth that you can be vegetarian, consider this:
Picture how cows, goats and horses DRINK water…
And how dogs, cats and lions LICK water.
Herbivores DRINK their water
Carnivores LICK their water
How do you consume your water?
Do you DRINK or LICK?
I will not forget the day I gave a talk on non-killing to a gathering of youths.  After my presentation, I asked for a show of hands, who considers him/herself an “animal-lover”.  A young boy put up his hand very sheepishly and said to me, “How can I call myself an ‘animal-lover’ if I still eat them and cause them to be killed?”
Never underestimate the untainted wisdom of a child’s reasoning.
They just know.

Here is just a bit of trivia for you: Adolph Hitler was also a strict vegetarian. Why? He, like many others in 1920s Berlin, felt that raising animals for slaughter was cruel. In light of his later activities, this seems insane and ironic, but there you have it… At least his heart was in the right place on one issue.

Thanks for devoting so much of your blog space today to vegetarianism! Truly,
Amanda (who is vegetarian) and Maneki Neko (who is not, and twitches her whiskers at the mere suggestion.)

  2. ha ha. I know Adolf Hitler was vegetarian. I always tell people this – that being a veggie does not guarantee that you will be a kinder person. The bottom line is, what is our motivation/intention of choosing to be veggie or eating less meat?
Nobody would know Hitler's motivation. Maybe he loved animals but hated certain humans (who doesn't? ha ha). OR, maybe he just didn't like the taste of meat?

You know, I sought the answer to that question for years, because it seemed incredible to me that Hitler would be vegetarian on ethical grounds. Surely it was for health reasons?!

But no. According to historian Paul Johnson, Hitler joined some Berlin student movements in the 1920s, and one of them advocated vegetarianism for the same reasons that you and I do: the premise that raising animals for slaughter is cruel and unethical. Hitler remained vegetarian for the rest of his life. One of his plans for Russia (once he had conquered it and emptied it of Jews & Russians) was to establish a special ministry to look after the welfare of dogs. Unfortunately (if only for Hitler and the dogs), the Russians prevailed.

It's a pity about those other character flaws of his, because he was really a great advocate for animals! *sigh*

    🙂

  4. Thanks for the sharing – I read that too, somewhere, but wasn't sure if the source was reliable. Goes to show that there can be people who love animals but simply hate (certain) humans.
Any why not? Humans, being the difficult and incorrigible creatures that they are! Some humans drive me up the wall.
