Thank you, Donald Duck.
A short flashback on the legendary and unforgettable Mr Quack:
Mr Quack invaded my neighbourhood in 2012 and caused total havoc, pandemonium and struck fear in all the neighbourhood cats. Our otherwise peaceful feline neighbourhood was totally destroyed.
He attacked Ginger, bit the poor boy and caused an almost gangrenous wound on his paw. Luckily I managed to take Ginger to the vet and antibiotics saved the paw. Ginger was not a patio cat at that time, but he came on his own and sat in the cage, asking for help. All the other cats fled in fear and no cat dared to go anywhere near Mr Quack. I couldn’t even feed the cats anywhere. The moment they sighted Mr Quack, everyone would run in fear.
However, Mr Quack was civil with Daffodil. Only Daffodil. He even came to intimidate Ginger while Ginger was caged for treatment.
Even we humans feared Mr Quack.
So, I had to catch Mr Quack. After several failed attempts, I finally caught him: http://animalcare.my/2012/12/19/ladies-and-gentleman-may-i-present-mr-q-plan-d/ and whisked him off for neutering. I couldn’t possibly risk putting him back in the neighbourhood and causing grievous harm to the cats. Neutering merely removes the mating urge, but the cat may keep all his other personality traits intact. Mr Quack had already established the feline hierarchy in my neighbourhood (that he is THE boss who is feared by all).
Rehoming him seemed a good solution. Sometimes, a change of environment would change his personality because he would have to adjust to a new feline hierarchy.
So I put him up for adoption while temporarily housing him at a shelter. One of our readers/applicants offered to adopt Mr Quack as she wanted the take up the challenge of taming him (brave girl she is!). So, Mr Quack was adopted!
The taming of the feline-shrew started and it’s been more than a year now… The good thing was that the moment Mr Quack went to her house, he didn’t dare attack any of her cats at all. So, rehoming did the trick in taming him to a certain extent.
I just spoke with the adopter a few days ago and she said Mr Quack is still NOT tame with humans….yet. It’s been more than a year, and yet, she still cannot touch him at all. But Mr Quack is happy in that he lives a solitary life and he likes the company of new kittens!
Here’s Mr Quack in December 2013 with Quack Jr, a new kitten who looked like him!
And that’s the story of Mr Quack!
