Babykit was getting from bad to worse by late afternoon. The vet had earlier told me that nothing can be done for her as she is so, so tiny, but I made a call to another vet and was told we could try subcutaneous fluids.
So, off we rushed to another vet down in PJ, in the pouring rain.
The vet was quite aghast to see Babykit being so weak and so, so tiny. But he said we must try everything possible, so he tried feeding glucose water and some nutripaste. We don’t know if Babykit took in any, as she is so tiny and it’s hard to gauge but we can only hope she did, if only a tiny amount.
Then, the vet gave her two subcutaneous injections of fluids. This is the alternative to putting her on drips because being so tiny, it is almost impossible to find a vein. During those few minutes we were there, we cheered whenever she made even the slightest movement.
The vet said her best bet is lots of tender loving care, feeding glucose water round the clock, and even milk, if she is willing to ingest a bit of it.
So, Babykit is back home with me now. She is extremely (if I can find a more superlative word than this, that would be it) weak now. Do please help by sending her lots of love and positive thoughts.
The vet told me Babykit has the “Fading Kitten Syndrome”. This is the case where some kittens fade away very quickly due to some congenital problems.

It’s moment by moment now, literally. All afternoon, I have been peering into her box, looking for signs of breathing. It’s very faint now.
We can only do our best. Such is the sad life of stray animals.
