Through the unfolding of this entire case, Devi has repeatedly demonstrated that she only wants Stuart back to prove that she can successfully look after a kitten. To put it bluntly, to nurse her bruised ego. Her initial actions of feeding the kittens baby formula despite being told of its unsuitability, her unwillingness to take a taxi to do the necessary to save Stuart’s life and her initial unwillingness to surrender Stuart to a fosterer even though Stuart was dying speak volumes of her intentions.
The first fosterer who offered to look after Stuart (when he was already dying) was turned down by Devi despite the fact that the fosterer said she would drive all the way to Brickfields to pick up Stuart and thereafter return Stuart to Devi after he was well. We persuaded Devi over another day, and seeing that Stuart was in very dire straits, she finally agreed to let the fosterer take him, but we could not contact the first fosterer anymore. Hence, Punitha searched all day until Kak Azah was found and she was wiling to take Stuart. Devi gave Stuart with the understanding that Stuart would be returned to her and that was our initial intention as well. But it was only after this that we found out Cindy and Stuart were given baby formula and not kitten milk.
The unfortunate turn of events also began to reveal more and more of Devi’s intentions in wanting Stuart – for her own emotional satisfaction with little consideration for Stuart’s wellbeing as demonstrated by her refusal to take a taxi to get the necessary supplies for Stuart, her claims of financial and transport problems and her initial unwillingness to let Stuart be fostered.
B
ased on these actions and Cindy’s unfortunate demise, we are very doubtful that Devi can provide Stuart with the necessary nutritional and medical care that he would need for the rest of his life. We have made many attempts to resolve this matter through persuasion and discussion, but Devi is unbending in her insistence of wanting Stuart back for her own personal reasons.
We are of the opinion that she is an unfit adopter for Stuart and we will NOT be returning Stuart to her.
This is our FINAL decision on this matter.
Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who have helped us on this matter. Thank you very much for your overwhelming support and for sharing your experience and thoughts.
As of now, we will not be posting any further news on Stuart.
Some of you have written to ask if Devi has had a longtime association with AnimalCare since you have noticed that she leaves a lot of comments on my posts.
When I first started AnimalCare, Devi asked for help to spay-neuter her cats. We fully sponsored 8 cats for her (Robbin, Sholay, Jackie, Baby, Mano, Angel, Ponni, Meenu Kutty), and provided transport to and from Subang Jaya to Brickfields, back and forth, 3-4 cats at a time.
At that time, I was new in this, and we felt sorry that she had no transport. But soon, her friend also asked us for transport, citing her case, so that was when we said no more. We do not provide transport anymore for any case.
In our first trip to her house, we noticed a kitten who was severely dehydrated. We asked her permission to send the kitten to the vet, and the kitten was put on drips. The kitten, unfortunately, did not make it and passed away that evening itself.
We also fully sponsored the medical treatment plus 6 sessions of acupuncture treatment for her cat, Seenu, who had gum disease.
A few months ago, Devi asked for spay-neuter sponsorship for 3 more cats and asked for transport again. When we said we do not provide transport, it took her months before she finally arranged for her own transport. One of the cats she brought in was found to be pregnant. When we told Devi we would not sponsor the spaying, she decided to get it done anyway and paid for it herself. We sponsored the neutering of the other two males cats (Tingky and Vicky).
Hence, to date, we have fully sponsored the spay-neuter of 10 of her cats.
Initially, Devi had the habit of cutting-and-pasting my posts and sending it out as emails to her MI Club asking for donations, but I stopped her from doing that as that is NOT the way we raise funds. She late occasionally sent out postings when we publicised animals for adoption.
Devi has NEVER donated to our fund nor helped us physically in any way.
Cindy and Stuart were the rescues of Wei Kien and we publicised for adopters because Wei Kien had a 3-day deadline to send the kittens to the shelter. Devi offered to adopt the kittens.
The rest is history.

Dr. Chan,
On January 9 this year, you did a posting for Gina who had been looking for adopter for a beautiful tiny grey kitten rescued from a drain. Devi Narayanan wrote to ask for the kitten, saying:
"… she looks exactly like my Julie baby who left us all few months back due to DIARRHOEA …"
"… Please check with Dr Kah Yein first & if she agrees, is it OK for you to send her to my place ( 125D, Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad
Brickfields)? Thanks Kah Yein. Hope Gina would consider to send me her little baby …"
God! Her kitten Julie also had died of diarrhoea, just like Cindy and Stuart almost died too!"
And she had the cheek to retort in one of her comments on your many postings defending her use of Fernleaf human milk powder and another brand of human milk powder, haughtily showing off her 30 cats whom she claimed to have survived on her for-human-consumption milk powder.
Well, we do know for a fact that she has about 30 surviving cats. What we DO NOT KNOW is that aside from those 30 cats that are alive, how MANY ACTUALLY HAD DIED OF DIARRHOEA!!!!!
HOW MANY BABY KITTENS HAD DIED OF DIARRHOEA BEING FED COW MILK FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION IN HER HANDS BEFORE JULIE AND CINDY, AND HOW MANY MORE ARE GOING TO DIE OF DIARRHOEA AFTER THIS BECAUSE TO THIS DAY, THIS IDIOTIC, STUBBORN IGNORAMUS STILL INSISTS SHE HAD BEEN DOING THE RIGHT THING AND THAT SHE IS A NOBLE PERSON?
God, how many?????!!!!!!
Kah Yein & Gina, DID YOU GUYS GIVE THAT CUTE KITTEN TO HER?????? Please tell us "NO" ….. please ….
No, I have not given any kitten to Devi before. Cindy and Stuart are Devi's first adoptions through AnimalCare and even then, it is our policy to let the rescuer (in this case, Wei Kien) vet the potential adopters. AnimalCare does not do the vetting as I have no time to devote to this task. We only publicise.
Not being bad here, but I think AnimalCare should not sponsor any spaying/neutering cost for Devi anymore. It seems like she doesn't have the capability to look after all her cats, she depends too much on other help and subsidizes. 30 cats are too much for a person that have financial problem.
Since she has been following your blog here, I believe that she should have learned that kittens cannot be fed with human milk formula. The latest cases would be how you foster the sunny kittens and there shouldn't be any excuse of knowing about that.
Dr. Chan, did Gina give that kitten to Devi in January?
Look at Devi's postings in http://www.kitten.com.my (she uses the ID "mathavi_n") concerning herself (a diabetic single mother to 2 kids) and what her cats eat (so this is the great life Stuart was supposed to look forward to):

I am Mathavi d/o Narayanasamy. You may address me as Devi.
I sent a message to you few days back but there wasn't any reply.
I am an Indian single parent with 2 dependents, my aged sickly mother and my 10 yrs old boy. I am not from a well-to-do family. My ex-husband left me after swindling all my life time savings and left me stranded. I work as a secretary with a stingy Indian boss for 6 years without any increment.
OK, I will come right to the point. I am an avid animal lover. I can't bear to see any abandon baby animal, or injured animals by the streets. I have tried to ignore them but I feel guilty when they are run down by cars and motorbykes right in front of my eyes.
Once I saw an alive kitten infested by maggots, I was very young and helpless, not knowing what to do. I f I were to bring it home, there would be a war between me and my mother. Later when I went back to see it, what a pity, it was completely eaten by the maggots. Since then, I picked my guts, and bring them home. No matter what time and place, I immediately rush to rescue. I have collected such animals and had about 20s cat & kitten but gave them away to SPCA. Then, I understood from someone that normal domestic animals are put to sleep if not adopted by anyone at the SPCA.
So, from then, I vowed to bring them home at any cost and keep them with me. They too grow so attached to me. I live in a small flats, where I have converted the airwell as a big cage for them. I spend about RM250 – RM300 just for their food, and for accessories, like shampoo, towels, then clinic checkup and medication for deworming, ulcers, skin diseases, etc, I need about RM100 – RM150 per month. To keep their cage clean, need to purchase soap powder, air-refreshener, floor cleaner, broom, mop, etc costing about RM50/month. I still feed some stray adults which loiters around the building.
There was once, somebody who hit and broke a 2 months old kitten's hind leg, I had to purchase bottles of herbal medicated oil from Indian shop and pour on his deep smelly, wound for a month as the flesh started rotting and the broken bone kept chipping off. He used to shiver when I hold him. Maybe he would thought that I am going to hurt him further.
I didn't bother the bad smell, all I wanted is to kill its agony. He never goes to anyone except me. I could not bring him home fearing that my adult cats might fight with him. Finally I won, yes he healed and now a fine chap but with only three legs.
My plight is, as a single parent with low salary of RM1,200/=, I find it very difficult to support 2 dependents plus at present, my 12 cats (10 cats and 2 kittens). Four died of flue as I could not treat them due tio financial strain.
I think I am clear of my plight. If there is anyone out there to help me to support these innocent souls, please help me on the Science Plan Catfood and for vaccination as I have not given any. I managed to castrate/spay only 4, and I am left with another 6 adults. Need to castrate/spay them as they breed very fast.
If there is anyone interested tpo help me, call me at 016-9748542 or e-mail me at mathavi_n@yahoo.com.
Please treat this as URGENT as I don't want to increase their population.
Regards,
MATHAVI NARAYANAN

Dear Buddies,
Thank you for all your responses and suggestions. What you orang cakap memang betul. But give me sometime, need to prepare myself to give them up for adoption.
So anyone out there sudi ambik gambar kucing-kucing saya, tolong talipon Devi ya.
And anyone ada SP catfood nak di donate-kan, sila hubungi saya. Oh, by the way, I ada 3 packets of 4.5kg cat litter bags with me. I got them free with the SP 10kg bags I purchased. I don't use them, oops sorry, my cats don't use them because they are toilet trained and most of them (especially my mother's 4 fatties (Seenu, Kunyi, Anju and Napo) buat betul-betul dalam lubang bilik air. And they tunjuk buntut suruh kita lap dengan tissue bershampoo. These 4, kalau di suap ikan rebus atau daging ayam, dia orang membuka langkah seribu. Sedap dengar ya. My mother suggested that I donate it to sesiapa yang nak cat litter.
I nak share lagi cerita kucing ku lagi. Tolong dengar ya. One of my senior cat Kanna, suka sangat peria. As a diabetic patient, even I don't like peria. I don't understand why dia suka sangat. Mungkin dia pun ada diabetes kot. My Sandy (when she was alive) loves carrot and tomato and cries out if I eat those in front of her without giving her. She even nibbles me lovingly asking for it. Ronnie and Robin don't like each other and growl. The moment I ambik rotan, they cabut lari and hide kat buntut Whiskers. Tak malu langsung dia orang itu.
My lovely cat BOY @ BOJI, my favourite (he in now no more) will eat roti canai, only when mix dengan kari dhall. Otherwise he'll never touch it. Aneh betul budak itu. Once, unexpectedly dia naik on ouR toilet bowl and duduk kencing kat sana exactly like human-being. Entah siapa yang ajar.
Johnny pula suka lanyak semua yang dapat termasuk Tosai, idli, mee, meehoon, kuih-muih. His vision is not good. When he was still a baby, his both eyes were infected and again, since I could not treat him, I presume he lost part of his vision.

Thank God Stuart had been taken away from Devi! Wish we all had known Devi's background earlier and Cindy would still be alive, holidaying in Melaka with Stuart, romping all over the chalet under the watchful eye of a genuinely loving human mummy who is fully capable of caring for them. How sad!
No, YG, I do not agree with you. We said "it is about the animals, not humans" so I think it is good that AnimalCare still help her spay her strays otherwise the animals (they are strays, whether Devi's or under the care of some other animal carer).
Kah Yein, please do not discriminate if Devi still asks for help to spay/neuter, though I think she may not do so anymore. We help animals, not humans, dear.
I would say AnimalCare made the right decision not to return Stuart. The welfare of the animal comes first. To return Stuart to someone not capable of looking after the cat in a proper manner is sheer folly and might result in the death of Stuart. Right decision AnimalCare, you have my support. … MeowMeow
