There was quite a commotion in my house just now.
Out of the blue, we suddenly saw Bunny carrying a snake in his mouth!
It was so, so scary, to say the least. My husband said Bunny brought the snake down from upstairs and was heading towards the window to take it out.
I’m hopelessly terrified of snakes, so I was literally frozen with fear. But I saw it dangling from Bunny’s mouth.
Ming-Yi and my husband tracked Bunny down and he was with the (already dead) snake under a car outside. Husband got the snake out and took it far, far away.
We know there is an old wives’ tale that says a dead snake’s partner would come looking for it.
We don’t know if Bunny killed the snake, or it was already dead when he found it. But I think Bunny was trying to bring it out of the house.
Later, Ming-Yi took a stick upstairs to check for snakes, if any, and Bunny followed along, quite proud of himself for having been the hero of the day….and rightly so!
We’ve also checked Bunny for any bite marks or wounds. There appeared to be none.
Snake alert!!
To Bunny, the hero, I bow down low.
He may have saved our lives tonight.
Husband said it was a black snake. That’s the poisonous kind? The only time ever that a snake tried to come into our house was aeons ago, I think….about 10 years ago. It was viper. Someone had uprooted a tree nearby and I think it had upset the viper’s nest. The viper came back for three nights – we saw its slither marks on the sulphur we had sprinkled generously all over the porch. It tried to enter through the windows. We recommend you call SEQ Snake Catchers if you’ve spotted a snake.
Recalling that incident, it was 4am in the morning when I found it right outside my door. We didn’t have the cats then, only Bobby. The viper was asleep against the rubber strip of my front door, and it was quite obvious it had just swallowed a lizard, I think.
Scary…gives me the creeps just thinking about it.
I wonder if I can sleep tonight….

bunny is SO brave! my granma have the same experience but unfortunately her cat died while trying to kill the snake..the snake were right at her head when her cat boboy attacked.we were so thankful to him for saving my granma's life. RIP boboy.. :,(
So sorry to hear about your Boboy. He died a hero.
I doubt Bunny killed this snake, though I can't be sure. Maybe he found it already dead and wanted to play with it as cats like stringy things?
Don't under estimate your cat's capability. They can actually kill snakes, even a cobra. Cats are quite fast with their actions. However, if they are not used to hunting, they can end up being bitten by the snake especially if they strike on their head. Mine recently died after a cobra bit her
Yikes! I'm also terrified of snakes. One of my alley cat – Jimmy is very good at hunting for lizards, cockroaches, small rats, birds & small snakes. Whenever I caught him playing with one of these insects/animals, no matter how fear I am, I still need to intercepts him, else he's gonna end up eating them! So far, I only caught him eating lizards & birds. The other I found their bodies in one piece at the alley.
And almost 2 years ago, I went out to the alley to call another of my alley cat – Rocky come home for supper. It was around 9pm, I found him at the empty field (located at the end of the row of link house from the street behind). The field was covered with overgrown bushes about the height of 2 feet & it was all fenced up. I specifically made a hole for them to sneak out to play & roam.
OK, back to Rocky; I found him terrified & backing away from something, but it was too dark to tell what is in front of him. So I run back to get a torch light from the kitchen, and when I came back with the torch light, I had the biggest fear & surprise of my life! There's a cobra (about 7 feet long) slowly approaching Rocky!!! Rocky was 1 feet away from me, I wish I could grab him & run but we were separated by the fence! I scream loudly & call out to Rocky to run back through the hole under the fence. But he was in fear & had his eyes starring at the cobra & didn't seem to hear me calling. I panicked & tried to think of what can I do to save Rocky (eg: throw a big rock, flower plant at the snake…etc.) I even had this vision of me wrestling with the snake!
The whole commotion lasted less than 2 min, but it felt like forever! Luckily Rocky finally run back through the hole & I quickly cover it with big rocks & breaks.
Then I ran back to tell my dad & we decided to call Bomba the next morning, cos we doubt that they will come to catch the snake at a very dark night! So, I called them the next morning at 7am, and they give me the Pertahanan Awam (PA) contacts. After 1 hour waiting, four of them arrive. They search the field but couldn't find it. I told them it must have gone to the other field (same row of my house). The overgrown bushes there are the worst, the tallest weed are more than 10 feet tall. The PA people told me that I should contact with the land owner & asked him to cut the weed before they could search for the snake! Sigh….
It took almost 3 weeks to contact the land owner & the bushes are clear. I call the PA people, they say:"Kalau you jumpa ular itu, baru telephone kita. Dan tengok ular itu pergi mana, then beritahu kita semasa kita datang!"
So in the end, the snakes wasn't spotted nor caught!
