As I was about to turn into the guardhouse, I saw this…
It’s a Golden Retriever and what appears to be a terrier or shitzu (sorry, I’m hopeless at identifying purebreds) going for a stroll, but the small fellow is in the middle of the road, nonchalant about the possible dangers.
I slowed down, and tailed them from a distance, to ensure they were safe.
The retriever sort of “guided” the small one to cross the road and the two went on happily on their stroll.
The guard was watching me and he must have guessed my anxiety (by the way, he is the same guard who handed over the lost minpin to me a few weeks ago). So he told me these two dogs came from so-and-so’s house and that their owners always let them out like this. Later, he said, the maid will go catch them back.
Even the guard shook his head and knew it wasn’t a wise thing to do.
Sigh…
Updates at 6.00pm – I checked with the guards on my way out just now and they said the owner went looking for them and brought them back within a few minutes after I spotted them.

My opposite neighbour has this habit of driving off in the morning and leaving her male Chow Chow outside roaming the street until she comes back in the afternoon. Sometimes it rains or the weather is extremely hot and the poor thing is barking outside her gate. That’s some dog owners for you, either conveniently oblivious or do they hope the dog won’t be around any more when they get home?
Seriously, I don’t know how nor why owners have the heart to do this. Are they NOT worried? You know how sometimes, we have this moment “eh, why the house so quiet”? If I don’t see or hear my dog in the house, I panic. I will call for him and he comes running from wherever he was chilling out in the house.
Near my place, pure breeds are usually let loose. The gate is left purposely unlatched.
Many times,- when walking my dog and I spotted dogs out of their house I will carry my dog on one hand, the other will be holding the collar and walk/drag the dog back to their house. If I am driving, and spotted a familiar dog from the neighborhood, I bring the dog back home. To me, is just so very dangerous for our pets to hang out on the road with no leash and no owner!
