After weeks of experimenting with various litter, I have settled for OKO Plus. Note that I said “I” and not my cats, because my cats still prefer Ever Clean. But there have been enough brainstorming sessions to come up with a solution that doesn’t distress both the cat and their owners. And so, the idea of an automatic litter box was born. It is a must to have a look at if cleaning the droppings of your cat are becoming a nuisance.
However, I found out that Ever Clean uses high quality bentonite (clay), and because it is high quality (which explains its price(!) and why it clumps so incredibly well), it is dust free. The only problem is, the harvesting of clay destroys the topsoil and hence, it is not an environmentally friendly product. Knowing this, I had to look for another alternative, and I started experimenting with other brands of litter.
My quest to look for a better (not perfect, but better) litter brought me to try OKO Plus. OKO Plus’ Cat’s Best is made from wood and organic fibre, and is 100% biodegradable. It is even compostable. Hence, it is more environmental friendly.

So, what I did initially was, of course, to introduce it gradually. At that time, I was still mixing Ever Clean with Magic Litter. I just added in OKO Plus. I have four litter trays, so three of them had this threesome combination while one was only Ever Clean and OKO Plus.
Of course, the brood was curious and suspicious and refused to step into it on the first day. Well, except for Tabitha Jane, of course. She is always the first at the frontlines and has no qualms in ensuring whatever new and wild ideas I introduced to the brood were safe for cat use. Tabs used it, and found that it wasn’t so bad, after all.
Now, I’ve added OKO Plus into every litter box and everyone is using all the boxes. I still haven’t used OKO Plus “neat” yet as that would need a bit more time, but I’ll be moving towards that direction soon (hopefully!).
It doesn’t clump as well as Ever Clean, but it clumps better than all the clay litters I’ve been introduced to. This could be a plus point as well because if it splatters out of the box and gets wet, it won’t cake up so hard on the floor (easier to wash off). Ever Clean clumps as hard as cement and needs to be hand-scrubbed off from the floor.

I’m still looking for my OKO plus supply :(( The online store which I found charges really high shipping cost. Now using ever clean since the previous one clogged up my toilet real bad although it supposed to be toilet flushable litter? 🙁 I wonder where you got your supply Dr.Chan?
I got mine through a friend. I also found that it is sold in a shop in Ara Damansara.
Yup I got mine from the shop in Ara Damansara. I also found out that the Pet Shop in Section 14 ( opposite Jaya 33 ) is also selling Oko Plus.
I’m using Ever Clean because I saw Dr. Chan using it, and yes it’s really hard to scoop the clumped pee at the base of the cat litter… Since Dr. Chan is changing the brand , so I will too.. Tq for the info Dr. Chan.
Actually Ever Clean is very easy to scoop from the litter-tray. But hard to scrub off from the floor if it gets wet. I’m only changing because the harvesting of clay is damaging to the environment. But I don’t know if my brood would be willing to use OKO Plus neat. I’m still mixing.
