Suvarnamitra and their “Joy therapy”

My friend, Kon, and his wife are part of the Suvarnamitra group, a group of people committed to provide assistance to and bring cheer to the elderly.

Joy is a poodle they rescued (took over from the previous owner). Joy was in pretty bad shape when Kon and family took her, but is now a bubbly, happy and much-loved pet.

Hillary is Kon’s daughter and she and her friends formed the Kinabalu-4, the group of teens who scaled Mt Kinabalu (led by Kon) and raised RM16,000 for AnimalCare in 2012.

When Joy and Hillary visited us after the Kinabalu expedition: http://animalcare.my/2013/01/01/hillary-of-the-kinabalu-4-team-visits-with-joy-their-rescued-poodle/

Last week, Kon and Hillary brought Joy to visit my father. My father has been bedridden for sometime now. He had hip replacement, burhole surgery on his brain and recently, suffered 4 broken ribs due to a fall.

Kon sent these photos today and wrote:

This is the first time I see your dad’s smile.

I almost cried when your dad spoke with us and thanked Hillary and me for coming.

My father does not usually speak. He is very quiet and sometimes, not lucid.

But this visit clearly brought him much joy.

Joy (the poodle) is not a trained therapy dog, but the mere presence of Joy brought so much JOY to my father!

Thank you, Joy, Kon and Hillary!
