BARF and a new brand of natural yoghurt for the cats

The training to eat BARF is progressing very smoothly with even Cow, Pole and Tiger asking for more BARF now. I’ve increased the BARF to two meals now – breakfast is BARF with Monge and lunch is BARF only.

I will still have to give them Monge as well as kibble since I might not be the only one feeding them at every meal. They need to be able to eat all three types of food. Handling BARF requires grit (on the part of the human) since it’s raw food.

Meanwhile, at the patio…

Everyone is on BARF except…

…Mr Zurik.

Well, Mr Zurik wasn’t around for yoghurt training (but then again, Vincent doesn’t eat yoghurt either but he guzzles BARF). Mr Zurik is so disturbed by the very smell of BARF that he refuses to touch his wetfood if the wetfood comes from the same bowl as the BARF. In fact, he is so disturbed that he wouldn’t even eat with everyone else at the patio and has to eat (kibble only) further away. Well, a cat’s sense of smell is 40 times sharper than that of a human’s so that’s understandable.

And even at where he is eating, he wasn’t comfortable, so he went away, with his tail down, out of the gate. Very sad. I felt so sorry for him, so I went after him with a freshly opened can of Monge and he ate at the roadside! In a fresh clean bowl. He needed to be so far away before he could eat his food. Poor Mr Zurik.

So, you see, BARF may not be for every cat. The cat will let you know if he/she wants it.

Meanwhile, I have more yoghurt news. We were in USJ Taipan last night and I came across this brand:

It’s as fresh as can be (delivered 48 hours from farm to shelf) and it was only RM17.20 for 1.5kg. Now, that’s a steal!

It has 90 billion CFU live cultures!! The rest of the brands I’ve seen did not say “live cultures” on the labels.

No colouring, no food conditioner, no preservatives. I’ll excuse the wrong spelling for “probiotics” there.

It’s made in Malaysia. Support local products!

As fresh as possible!

The two brands of Greek yoghurt had thickening agents in them. I’m trying to get it as fresh and natural as possible, so let’s see if the cats would eat this brand tomorrow.

Yesterday, everyone inside ate the Greek yoghurt. EVEN COW – he asked for more too! Tiger ate yoghurt too. So, it’s a 100% for the Inside-Cats now. Outside, the Birds and Heidi love yoghurt, but Vincent refuses to eat it. Zurik didn’t come for yoghurt session.

I only give them yoghurt once in two days, and only a teaspoon each (perhaps, a wee bit more since they love it so much!). It’s for the probiotics.
