Visiting the RedQ and the doggies!!

When I wrote about the RedQ doggies 3 days ago, I hadn’t expected the overwhelming positive response we got from the general public. Even TheSunDaily and the FMT later republished our photos (those photos were taken by my husband), publicised the story and received even more overwhelming support!

We are extremely touched that so many people support kindness to street animals.

Today, my son, Jia-Wen, had to go to the RedQ, so I tagged along too, hoping to see the doggies.

Apparently, the fourth one is always at the buggies. And the cat must be asleep somewhere.

This is the RedQ.

After many years of flying as a first officer in AirAsia and AirAsia X, Jia-Wen passed the checks and exams in his command course and is awarded the rank of Captain.

That’s the Chief Pilot of Operations, Capt Voo and the Chief Pilot of Training, Capt Khoo, putting on the ranks on Capt Khoo Jia-Wen.

Management pilots do not need to wear their uniforms unless they are rostered to fly. The atmosphere at the RedQ is one of casualness – employees can wear tshirts, jeans and sneakers to work!

It was a simple yet meaningful ceremony whereby the two chiefs removed his first officer ranks and put on the Captain ranks, and then the Chief of Training handed the new captain over to the Chief of Operations.

Now, back to the doggies…

We spoke with the guards and they told us all about the doggies. Apparently, the doggies have been at this site since the construction of the RedQ.

When the RedQ building was completed, AirAsia’s GCEO adopted all the four dogs and also a calico cat. A committee had also been set up to look after the wellbeing of the dogs and the cat.

According to the guard, all the dogs are neutered. There are 2 girls and 2 boys. (I know this was the concern of many animal lovers earlier on when we first published the story on Saturday – so please rest assured, all four dogs have already been neutered and they are well taken care of.)

The guard also said that an association came in yesterday and offered training for the dogs. The first session started yesterday itself. The dogs also have their own kennels.

The doggies are named AK, D7, FD & QZ.

But for now, all of them come when you call one name!

They have toys too!

The dogs are very friendly and allow people to pat them.

This is the alpha dog. He guards the front portion.

We went to the back of the building where the buggies operate but could not find the fourth dog. He is rather elusive, the guard said. He is also very alpha and will mingle with the other three at night.

As for the cat, she’s probably sleeping somewhere. The guard said that the cat walks around proudly and the dogs don’t bully the cat when the guards are around.

She doesn’t have an official name yet, but the guards call her Kitty.

So, once again, kudos to AirAsia for being a shining example of corporate kindness and compassion!
