Medical aid for 1 cat in Cheras (Lee Soo Farng’s) – Grey’s final aid

We have given the balance of RM334.60 to Soo Farng for the next few acupuncture sessions or any other medical expenses for Grey.

Grey was rescued by Lee Soo Farng on 8th April 2024 after she spotted him dragging his legs on the road the day before. It was discovered later that Grey was hit by someone’s autogate which resulted in a nerve injury.

Before rescuing Grey, Soo Farng had asked a friend of AnimalCare if we could sponsor treatment for Grey. We agreed but it would have to be a special fundraising because our Medical Aid is given concurrently with our Neutering Aid and Grey is too young to be neutered. Also, his condition needed to be treated first.

So we started fundraising for Grey.

Grey was taken a vet for a diagnosis – it was a nerve injury resulting in almost no mobility of both hind legs and incontinence. The vet said that the “golden hour” for recovery had already passed and that this was not a new injury. However, physiotherapy and acupuncture might be helpful.

I also asked my vets for an evaluation and all came back with the same conclusion.

Appointments were made for the physiotherapy and acupuncture. Grey has since had his first physio session with good results and also his first acupuncture session, also with good results.

Grey has regained some mobility in his hind legs now. The incontinence might not improve much unless the nerves regenerate and this can only be seen after a few months. We hope it can happen. However, the chances of Grey regaining mobility in his hind legs are good. Meanwhile, Soo Farng is still learning to express Grey’s bladder every day. Practice makes perfect, and patience is needed.

Through the special fundraising, a total of RM1859.00 was collected.

RM1524.40 has already been used to pay for 4 bills and this includes two bills from the vet (consultation and medication), 1 bill from the physiotherapist for 5 sessions and 1 bill for the acupuncture.

There is a balance of RM334.60 which has already been banked in to Soo Farng to cover Grey’s future expenses, especially for the acupuncture sessions.
Updates on 8th May 2024: Soo Farng has re-donated this sum back to AnimalCare to benefit other animals in need, and she topped it up by another RM65.40 to round it up to RM400!

There are also two medications which were found to be unsuitable, ie. the Diazepam (RM45) and Denamarin (RM157).

We requested that Soo Farng exchange the Denamarin for Methycobal (B12) at the vet’s since Grey would required Methycobal for life. She has done this.

However, the Diazepam could not be exchanged as this was bought from a human doctor who did not have any exchange policy. So Soo Farng has returned the RM45 to us. We thank her very much for this so that this amount can be used to help the next animal who comes along.

We have also requested for Soo Farng to please update us on the remaining 4 sessions of physiotherapy as our donors had paid for the package of 5 sessions. This is for full accountability to the donors.

Last but not least, we would like to thank all donors so very much for having responded so graciously and generously to our special fundraising:

In loving memory of Cow Mau & Indy, an anonymous donor via TnG, donors from Pastorale Charity Concert 2023, Chan Chung Swee, Edward Tye, Foo Loo Sin, Gerald & Misty, Hew Voon Yoke, Jasmine Ee, Joy Saga, Lee Chin Chin, NandaLeonie Hong Siew Lan, Ng Seng Yum, Richard Chua, Sharonlin Ooi, Shue Sen, Tong Yut Fun.

You have all given Grey a wonderful new lease on life.

Here’s a message from Soo Farng: Thank You to all donors and for everything you have done for Grey. Initially if you didn’t say Yes for helping I am not sure if I would have rescued him. Also I didn’t know he was incontinent.

Thank you very much, Soo Farng, for taking Grey into your home and giving him love and care. Soo Farng has adopted Grey and he will live with her two cats, Oreo and Simba.

Here are photos of Grey taken today:

Have a great life, Grey!! Stay strong, healthy and happy!
