Updates on Gerald

There isn’t much updates except for the fact that there is a high level of glucose detected in Gerald’s urine and he is a bit low on potassium.

The vet will start him on a potassium supplement.

So, as far as we now know, Gerald’s blood glucose is high and he also has glucosuria (glucose in the urine). However, the vet says Gerald does not have the two most common symptoms of diabetes, which are (1) increased thirst and urination, and (2) weight loss despite eating well. Stress can sometimes cause elevated glucose (though not as high as Gerald’s), so we are still hoping that Gerald’s glucose level is due to the stress of the injury and not diabetes.

However, I still need to be prepared that it may be diabetes and that would require a long-haul treatment.

We will know more in the next few days.

We currently have to deal with the lump in his right shoulder and hope that heals without the need of surgery first. Then, there’s this high level of glucose and later, his dental. The best that can happen is that the inflammation in the shoulder heals without surgery and the glucose level comes down with treatment.

Hoping for the best.

I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn’t found Gerald today. His fever was already way too high this morning, short of reaching a life-threatening level. Luckily he decided to stop hiding and come out for me to spot him under the neighbour’s car.
