I was hoping for good news, but we don’t have any to share today.
From Tabs’ kidney readings, the Porus One did not work. Her creatinine continues to rise (from 426 to 477 in two weeks), her urea has come down a little but her phosphates has also gone up. So there is no point in continuing with the Porus One.
Instead, the vet prescribed one week of Clavaseptin, an antibiotic consisting of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid, to address any urinary infection Tabs may have which she opines may also cause the rise of the creatinine.
Otherwise, Tabs will just continue with her supplements and the 150ml daily subcut. We are already doing the best we can, and at the same time, we don’t want to stress her out unnecessarily with too much, knowing and accepting that her PCKD condition is progressing. I know it’s easier said than done, but after having nursed five CKD cats in the past, I know that once it progresses, there is nothing much we can do except to keep them as comfortable as possible and preserve normal routine.
Tabs isn’t losing weight, which is good. Her weight remains at 4.1kg. Her behaviour at home is also normal. I feed her whenever she wants to eat, which is about three times daily. It’s a little challenging as sometimes it’s tricky to know which foods she wants. She should be on a renal diet, but she doesn’t like renal food, so I give her whatever she likes. Usually it’s canned food where the protein level is quite low.
