Bird-nest watching

A pair of birds have chosen build their nest in our guava tree. We have been watching the nest for some time now and also guarding it from the outside cats. Previously, we have had birds building nests in our potted plants as well as the curry leaf tree too.

Luckily, this time the birds were smart enough to build it quite high up in the guava tree, so we think it’s quite out of reach of the cats.

The nest is completed already and the birds fly to and from it daily. Some other birds come to visit too. Or maybe they just come to peck on the guavas in the tree.

Creamy was spotted watching the nest from the wall, so we had to chase him off. Luckily Gerald has not shown any interest in the nest at all.

Juno and Riley know about the nest, even though they are inside the house. Perhaps it is the hunter’s instinct in female cats. Here’s Juno keeping watch from the catio at the Stargate.

We really hope the baby birds will hatch safely and remain safe in their nest until they are able to fly off into the world. Meanwhile, we will continue bird-nest watching and protect the nest from any feline predators.

I can’t wait to see the little babies. I wonder what species they are.
