And suffering truly exists….

While we are doing our very best to help the stray animals as much as we can, there are also SO many whom we cannot help.


Marina sent me news of a poor pregnant-dog and her unborn babies who were burnt to death in Setapak yesterday.

I don’t read Chinese, so I don’t know the story. When I saw the photograph, I could not even bring myself to click on the link. It’s just too overwhelming. So I waited until this morning before I looked at it.     


It is always very painful for me to read such news or even hear about it. At times like these, I must remember what my friend, Dr Tan, told me, that is, to consciously stay in the present moment: The animal is no longer suffering now. You too should not suffer.  Hence, it doesn’t help that we sit and lament over such things and suffer. Rather, it should compel us to do more to help these animals in order to reduce such suffering from happening. 


It also doesn’t help that there are many humans who will discourage us from doing what we do. Their excuse is always this: There are so many of them, what difference will it make? Or, it is a never-ending story, why even bother? I don’t hear them discouraging those who help poor humans, those who try to curb prostitution and human trafficking, those who try to end drug trafficking – it’s a never-ending story too, why bother? Indeed, why? Because that’s helping humans? And humans are more worthy of help than animals?? I’ve got my fair share of resistance and I seldom talk about it, but it gets to you, sometimes.     


I fail to understand why some people must discourage others from doing good, especially when it comes to charity to animals. They seem to derive great delight in pouring cold water on other people’s efforts.     


Yes, it is true that there are SO many animals suffering out there and we cannot possibly help ALL of them, but this should never deter our spirit in helping those who pass through our hands and cross our paths. 


Spay-neuter, please.  As many as you can.
