I was coming back from the Zero Waste Store at SS14 today when I bumped into a familiar face – it was Saudara Zayd Shaukat, the MUDA candidate for N.31 Subang Jaya!
Wow! What a great opportunity! I had been wanting to find out when Saudara Zayd would be giving his ceramahs as I truly would like to know if he might be interested in helping street animals.
Yes, we have been trying for the last 14 years, speaking to many politicians (has anything been done?), and yet, we are not giving up. Never giving up for our furry friends!
We know, from experience, how incredibly hard it is to find a politician who would be interested in helping animals. And why is that so? It is because animals don’t vote and animal lovers are a minority. It has been that same old story for time immemorial.
So I asked Saudara Zayd how he feels about street animals and guess what?
He has a very soft spot for street cats and in general, street animals!!
He even has a rescued cat at his bilik gerakan now, and he is going to attend to the cat’s needed medical treatment too. The cat, a female, has some sinus problems and is sneezing. Saudara Zayd is planning to take the cat to the vet tomorrow. This cat came on her own to his bilik gerakan and is the first to welcome him every day. Well, you cannot bluff an animal, we all know this, don’t we? If any animal comes to you on their own, that’s clear indisputable proof that you are a kind and trustworthy person! Saudara Zayd has two cats at home too and he misses his cats the most when he is out campaigning.
Before I even asked, Saudara Zayd says that one of his plans for the community is to implement Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage.
Wonderful!!
So, street animal lovers and supporters – please engage with the candidates in your constituency and ask them how they feel about street animals, what they are willing to do and listen to what they have to say.
Then you know whom you should vote for.
We look forward to the day when humans and street animals live in harmony, with humans taking the lead in caring for them.
This can only start with us.
And it definitely helps if our leaders are interested too.
Saudara Zayd is.
