  • Can we learn from Thailand, please?

Here’s what I’ve heard: In Thailand, you seldom see dogs being abandoned.  Why is this so?  Simply because the people love their dogs.  In Thailand, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is practised widely.  Stray dogs are neutered/spayed and their left ears are tipped (an international marking for neutered community animals).  The dogcatchers DO NOT capture any animal with…

  • Let the “blessed child” be born in our humble hearts

In the spirit of Christmas, let divine intentions be born in our humble hearts, let kindness be showered unto those who are weaker than us, those who are helpless, those who are unloved and uncared for. Whatever religious faith we profess, the most important teachings and the greatest wisdom is unselfish love and kindness.    Thought of…

  • She needs tender loving care until it’s time to go

I am appealing again for this purebred miniature pinscher.  “Minnie” (the name I’ve given her) is a 10 year-old female who was surrendered by her owner to PAWS.  Minnie has a tumour in her mammary glands and is not expected to live very much longer (the shelter manager thinks she only has 6 months to…

  • Of humans, dogs and miracles

Just this morning I was writing about needing wisdom to keep me going when suddenly a bomb was dropped on me.  The fosterer who had promised to take in Sean (the dog with distemper) told me he did not want to do it anymore.  That’s it.  No apologies, no offers to help me look for…

  • Wisdom is needed to keep us going

This Klang rescue has really taken a toll on me.  Not only did I come down with flu after the three-day rescue, but the emotional upheaveals that came after discovering some were sick (two with distemper) was something unexpected.  I never knew we would have to bring back any sick dog.     Many other unexpected issues…

  • The foursome at PAWS

Yesterday, we brought back 7 dogs from Bentong, suspected to be unwell.  Four were boarded at PAWS, thanks to Edward’s kind offer.  We went to visit today, to feed them some cooked chicken, and to give them their medicine.  This is the little one I was most worried about.  Yesterday, when they arrived in the…

This is a 10 year-old purebred female miniature pinscher.  She was surrendered at PAWS.  She has a mammary gland tumour but is too old to undergo surgery.  She also has a cataract in one eye.  PAWS is currently looking for a fosterer to give her a more comfortable life so that she need not be euthanised.  PAWS’ manager,…
