  • Ginger and Tabs

Another nice photo for the album. Ginger gets along with everyone. He’s such a good cat.

  • The Blondies’ breakfast

Samantha and Akira prefer raw food while Kai and Indra eat raw and canned, depending on their mood for the day. But everyone loves kibble! The Blondies are up for adoption, preferably as a family as they are very close-knit. If you are interested, please contact me at chankahyein@gmail.com.

  • Ginger’s family support

Minnie and the Monsters have been giving Ginger a lot of support. They sit close to him and give him friendly nudges that say, “We are here for you.” We all are, Ginger. We are all here for you.

  • Ginger’s appetite

Ginger’s appetite seems to be stable for now, under the new medications. He still eats by himself, which I’m truly thankful for, even though he can only eat small amounts at a time. So I offer him food every hour or whenever he “tells” me that he wants to eat. It is all about reading…

  • Ginger’s condition deteriorates

I noticed that Ginger’s condition was deteriorating, so I took him to another vet today, all prepared for not-so-good news. True enough, in just two weeks, his condition has indeed deteriorated. It’s the progression of the FIV and there’s nothing much we can do about it. We decided not to opt for anything invasive which…

  • Ginger restarts steroids

Ginger’s appetite decreased again without the steroids, so after a discussion with the vet, he’s back on 1/2 tablet of steroids but with a tapering protocol. Hopefully, we can taper it down so that the dosage is kept to a minimum level or just as required.

  • Ginger’s appetite improves

As expected, Ginger’s appetite improved significantly after being on steroids. He is back to eating as before. But I am totally aware that this is due to the effects of the steroids that gives the “feel good” feeling. He will complete the 8-day course of steroids tomorrow and after that, I really, really hope his…

  • Ginger starts on subcut and steroids

Ginger’s inappetence did not improve. I could barely get him to eat much. So I consulted the vet yesterday for the next step. The vet had earlier said the next step would be to administer steroids to try and suppress the progression of the FIV. Based on Ginger’s blood test results, his problem is that…

  • Ginger’s immuno-suppression issue

Ginger has been losing weight and his appetite hasn’t been good, so we took him to the vet’s this afternoon. I was worried that perhaps his kidneys or liver had taken a turn for the worse, but the blood tests showed that it wasn’t so. Ginger is still at Stage 1 of CKD and his…

  • Ginger’s updates

Ginger’s eye inflammation got better after about 5 days and he completed his 10-day antibiotic course on Thursday morning.  However, since starting on the antibiotics (Augmentin), his appetite has decreased. Now, he’s very, very choosy over food and will only eat a “new taste” for every meal. It’s been very challenging getting him to eat.…

  • Blondies – for adoption

The Blondies are up for adoption. Samantha, the mother-cat, is estimated to be around 3 years old. The three daughters are Kai, Akira and Indra, all 2 years old. All of them have been spayed, vaccinated and are in good health. Samantha was rescued from the street when pregnant so that she would have a…

  • Ginger’s inflamed eye – off to the vet’s

Yesterday morning, I noticed that Ginger’s right eye was inflamed and had discharge. By evening, it became worse, so it was off to the vet’s. The vet checked and said it’s due to a flu. Ginger already had a bit of nasal discharge as well. Both his eyes were checked and there was no ulcer…

  • Tabs and her frequent meals

Tabs eats a few times a day, at least three times. It’s small meals, but I’m glad she still has her appetite. I give her a variety of foods, as long as she eats. Tabs has polycystic kidney disease (PKD) which is a genetic condition and chronic. Most likely, she was born with this condition…

  • Riley the mind-reader

It’s true what they say about pets – they are mind-readers. We’ve always known this fact. Riley has demonstrated incredible mind-reading skills. She knows when we wish to retire for the night to go upstairs. Our normal routine is to watch a tv series after dinner. We don’t really have a fixed time, as it…

  • All’s well with Kelly

The guards have changed again. Luckily we now have a young guard who doesn’t mind feeding Kelly. So I just have to ensure there’s an adequate supply of kibble at the guardhouse. And every morning, I still go down to give her canned food. Life is all about adapting to change, isn’t it?
