  • Lucky eats, drinks and walks in the sunshine!

This is Lucky’s story: https://animalcare.my/2023/02/20/the-rescue-of-lucky-and-the-5-freedoms-of-animal-welfare/ In short, Lucky was a family’s pet, but he was kept in a small cage for his entire 12 years of life with them, from a puppy until an elderly dog now. A rescuer persuaded the family to surrender Lucky to her, but she wanted to have Lucky put down. Ms…

  • Jayden and Riley

Riley is Jayden’s kindy-friend and loyal companion! Let’s go play at the cat tree, Riley! Riley has a soft toy too!

  • Good morning, kitties

Yesterday, I thought Samantha was already feeding her kittens, so with Jayden back in his house, we went out for a movie. We were delayed and came back before 8pm. The kittens were all very hungry. Looks like maybe Samantha had not fed them again. The thing is, feeding them while they are also on…

  • The rescue of Lucky and the 5 freedoms of animal welfare

We would like to share this experience from Ms Ong, founder of Survivor Shelter. Yesterday, Ms Ong took in an old dog, aged 12 years, named Lucky, who had previously belonged to a family. According to Ms Ong,  Lucky had been kept in a cage for his entire life by this family. As a puppy,…

  • A mid-day report on the kittens

Samantha has decided to breastfeed her kittens today. Maybe it’s a Sunday thing? So during my scheduled feeds after the 5am feed today where everyone was famished, I did not have to give so much anymore. It is just back to the 3ml of supplementation per kitten. Hopefully, Samantha continues feeding her kittens. This is…

  • Good morning, hungry kitties!

The kittens were really, really hungry this morning! It had been five hours since the last feed. I should have woken up earlier, but I was dead tired. Kai drank 7ml and could have even drunk more but I did not dare push it. Akira 6ml and Indra 7ml. Date Time Kai Akira Indra 11-Feb…

  • Almost back on track

    I have been handfeeding the kittens every 2-3 hours today. Their weights are almost back on track now. Date Time Kai Akira Indra 11-Feb 6.00pm 118 115 104 12-Feb 6.30am 125 123 114 12-Feb 5.30pm 133 131 123 13-Feb 5.30am 143 137 128 13-Feb 6.00pm 149 146 133 14-Feb 5.00am 160 149 145 14-Feb 5.30pm…

  • Back to syringe-feeding

I just fed Kai and Akira 3.5ml each and Indra, 4ml. The vet says it is safe to go up to 4ml. I took their weights too and there is an increase for everyone. Phew! And they were all hungry too. So I think Samantha is not producing sufficient milk. Even when she came back…

  • The vet’s advice

The vet says as long as the kittens are still alert, which they definitely are, they are still alright. The vet also said it is also better to use a bottle compared with a syringe, to handfeed, so I’ve bought a bottle, poked a hole in the teat with a hot needle (about 0.02cm in…

  • Red alert on all three

The weight gain in the last 12 hours has not been good. I’m worried about worms. They are only 8 days old and a quick search on the internet says the earliest kittens can be dewormed is at 2 weeks. I remember Peanut, Butter and Jelly (orphaned kittens) had diarrhoea and were dewormed. Only Peanut…

  • Red alert on Kai

I had a shock of my life when Kai only put on 2g in the last 12 hours when I weighed them at 6.00pm this evening. Immediate intervention was definitely needed. So I syringe-fed him 2ml of milk. And now at 9.30pm, I weighed him and his weight has increased by 8g. That’s really such…

  • Furby is a big boy now!

He sure looks big, doesn’t he? Sure looks like Furby’s got a best friend! Backstory: Furby was a little longhair kitten who wandered into our porch on 18th December 2022 and absolutely refused to go away. So I took him in and got him checked by the vet. After a week, Furby was adopted by…

  • Akira opens one eye!

While Kai is definitely the eldest as I watched them being born one by one, Akira is the first to open…one eye! Even last time, 17 years ago, it was Pole (female) who first opened her eyes, but that was 10 days after being rescued. Today the kittens just hit 7 days old and Akira…
